How to Make Pizza at Home

At our house, pizza is a big favorite. In fact, my husband would probably eat pizza every day if I’d served it.

While we have a couple of local places we enjoy, the pizza we have most often is “Mommy Pizza.” Yes, pizza is an easy thing to order out, but it can also be really easy to do at home. You can get fancy if you choose — make your own crust and sauce from scratch — but you don’t have to.

And when you remove the stress of homemade sauce and crust, you can enjoy the time in the kitchen with your kiddo. Pizza at home is fun because everyone can make their own. In our house, there are very few shared toppings among the three of us. And because my son’s allergic to dairy, we can’t just get a large pizza to share someplace. The customization part is also what’s fun for kids. My son LOVES to build his own pie (and everyone else’s, too)

And guess what? You can still call it cooking. You’re still pulling out ingredients and using the oven for goodness’ sake.

Here is what I do:

  • I buy lavash for the crust. (I like Atoria’s.) We like a thin crust, and this works well for us. (Leftovers can be used for wraps … or more pizzas!) You could also use naan or a refrigerated pizza crust.

  • I buy the sauce. I personally like Rao’s. It’s the best I’ve found so far, and it’s sugar-free.

  • We customize our toppings.

See? It’s as easy as … pie. Get it?

Seriously, though, pizza — like cookies or brownies — should never be stressful. Enjoy the process. And when you’re ready, add in homemade sauce or crust if you want. But mostly, enjoy the process of creating something with your kiddo.

Happy Pizza Day!
