For Brent Jackson, who was diagnosed with autism when he was 6 years old, cooking is a part of his independence as an adult. This is his story of his relationship with cooking and his advice for parents who want to teach their kids to cook.

 

Meet Our Guest

Raised in Columbus, Ohio, Brent Jackson was diagnosed with autism when he was 6 years old. He graduated with is associate's degree in culinary arts in 2008. In July 2018, his parents helped him move across the country to Phoenix, Arizona, to be a student in the First Place Transition Academy, a program for adults with autism 18 and older to help be more independent while developing life skills. He graduated from the Transition Academy in June 2020 and today lives in Tempe, Arizona, where he works as a library technician.
